Jose Cinco
Executive Director
Born and raised in San Diego, California, Jose Cinco’s life has been shaped by service, resilience, and a deep connection to the outdoors. From an early age, he developed a passion for fishing, athletics, and hands-on creativity interests that would later become central to both his personal and professional journey.
In 2002, Jose enlisted in the United States Army as a 13P MLRS Fire Direction Crewmember. He deployed to Iraq in 2005 with the 3rd Battalion, 13th Field Artillery Regiment, supporting operations alongside the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, and the 2nd Marine Division. Over a 16-year military career, Jose served in a wide range of leadership roles including instructor, Combatives Instructor, Regional Leader, Maintenance NCOIC, Platoon Sergeant, Operations NCO and Acting First Sergeant. He concluded his service as a medically retired Sergeant First Class.
Throughout his military career, Jose demonstrated a commitment to leadership and mentorship, notably serving as an instructor and regional leader responsible for developing over 75 Non-Commissioned Officers. His excellence was recognized when he earned honors in the 80th Training Command Instructor of the Year competition. During this time, he also openly shared his personal journey through depression, helping others recognize the importance of mental resilience and support.
Following his transition from active service, Jose continued his work in leadership and community-building within the outdoor industry and nonprofit sector. His passion for fishing and the outdoors became a foundation for connecting with others, particularly fellow veterans, through shared experiences and therapeutic engagement.
Today, Jose serves as the Executive Director of Warriors For Freedom, where he leads with a focus on strengthening community, building meaningful relationships, and expanding programs that directly impact veterans and their families. His approach to leadership is grounded in emotional intelligence, accountability, and a commitment to long-term sustainability.
Jose believes that service does not end with the uniform it evolves. As a leader, he is dedicated to ensuring that veterans remain connected, supported, and empowered within their communities. Through his work, he continues to carry forward the values of service, discipline, and purpose that have defined his life.
